It’s that time of year again and it’s open stu

It’s that time of year again and it’s open studios for many artists in Canberra. I’m pleased to be opening my studio this Saturday from 11am to 4pm.

I love being apart of the Design Canberra Festival hosted by the fabulous team @craft.act . They work tirelessly to make this event run as smooth as they can. I’ll have a couple of my birds on display along with jewellery and little dishes. Pop on in as we love visitors 💛.

Every year I buy a Christmas wreath from @shopgirlflowergirl - they go within minutes of their posting. I’m not surprised! They are beautifully made by Amy and Kerist who forage for little, in season flora that come together in the prettiest arrangement. Here’s to a lovely Christmas 💛

Funny enough a memory popped up on my Facebook yes

Funny enough a memory popped up on my Facebook yesterday which was from the ANU School of Art & Design ceramics workshop. It was from 10 years ago when I did my last firing as a student. It seemed apt as I was going through my tax papers to realise I haven’t made or fired my own work for 12 months! It just goes to show that sometimes even artists do have a pause for various reasons. Mine was simply to focus on saving my gallery from the impact of the pandemic. I don’t regret this for a moment as my full time job is being a Gallery Director and ensuring the doors stay open for my artists and for me too 💛💛. @galleryofsmallthingscbr

My friend Kerist made me this as soon as I spied her posting on two gorgeous masks she had lovingly created. She knows how much I love yellow and made this especially for me. Kerist has been a dear friend for quite some time. In particular, she and I have been in close contact supporting each other while we run our small, sole trader businesses. It’s been a difficult 18 months navigating ups and downs that come with running a full time business. Often most people don’t realise we are working almost 24/7 to keep our doors open … well in this case semi closed while lockdown continues in Canberra. I’m incredibly thankful to be able to cry and laugh with Kerist as she has checked in with me almost weekly to ensure neither of us go loopy! As some of you know I love to bake and all I can say is this recipe by @nigellalawson was a big hit! I made two little changes. I use Lindt dark peppermint chocolate for a distinctive flavor. We also grow our own raspberries which means fresh is best. We are very lucky to be able to do this and I’m incredibly grateful that we can. My dear friend Rachel gave us two plates from Royal Copenhagen, Denmark and it’s navy blue and white pattern pairs beautiful with the red, cream and rich brown of the pavlova. Mmm...thankfully there is enough left over for Adam and I to have tonight along with a limoncello aperitif and mint tea. Merry Christmas everyone, Anne xx
